While travelling thru southern, Michigan, the area you talked about in 2022 , I, lost stopped in Bronson, a small town with a police force of but two asking a resident if I could borrow his cell phone for a local call as my Israeli SIM card was not picking up towers. I showed him my Israeli passport as proof I was lost. He said wait until my wife comes from the Dollar Store. I waited ca 10 minutes in the hot August sun, his severely obese wife eventually came waddling out of the store, got in the car and they drove off, leaving me standing there. A minute or two later woman emerged from the store in the empty parking asking me what I was doing there, I asked, why the question? She replied, 'the man your asked for help called the store and told her to call the police, foreign drug dealer here asking for directions'. It was clear to her that I was 'Karened' in this small town where Trump 2024 signs were everywhere. I notified authorities about the incident but no one cared.
The pukes waging culture war / White Christofascist grasp for hegemony are dependent on the power of tribal identity to satisfy their fantasies. That lacks the durable reality of land / homeland. The big brains behind the pukes know they must remain diligent tending the fires of division and fear of “the other”. They know their control power can be flipped by popular cultural / political movements. The encroaching reality pressure of environmental degradation running paralllel to lost income & security for people is probably too much for them to keep ahead of. We can aggravate that by effective organizing & mass communication.
It feels like the country has been captured by glassy-eyed cultists. The walking dead of the former Republican Party. The Democrats seem caught between kissing the corporate ring and total irrelevance, and will likely wind up with both.
Ground up revolt is our only hope, and we should all hope it doesn’t turn violent. This is the happiest thought I can come up with to feel any “patriotism” on July 4th.
