When you've got so much microplastic in your nutsack that you've turned Cheetos orange, what's the harm in supporting more production if it can get you campaign funds?
Hmm, SW Penna, a few miles from the WVA line is where my former coal mining kin live, love DT and long ago ghosted me for my comments about him. They are still waiting for the mines to reopen...
I grew up maybe 100 miles downriver, moved to NYC just as the chemical industry was starting to supplant the Ohio Valley's honest small manufacturers. My WV cousin, retired after a long blue collar Dupont (Teflon) career, and his salt-of-the-earth wife refuse to hear ill spoken of their beloved pension-payer. My brother used to try to figure out where Cousin B. got his political disinformation—somewhere far to the right of RW tv. Best Bro could determine, it was from rabid mailing lists. … Just read that Joe Manchin is seriously considering another run for WV governor. That should please your miner kin.
Hmmmm. Strangely, I have recently been comparing growing hate and bigotry in the USA to the blob. I didn’t remember the ending, thank you for providing it as it makes the metaphor much more powerful. Like the blob, there just seems to always be some human affliction released and continuing to be released from Pandora’s box.
Wow…breathtaking info. Thanks, NB. If we didn’t know Big Oil was the enemy this certainly clarifies it. It is a freakshow of greed and stupidity…sharing
Amazingly well researched and written piece Nina, all of which should be better known! The science is well known to the offenders of this old cosmic blue ball, but sharing that knowledge is a deadly sin to greed and profit! Thanks for all you do!!
Nina, this is a really great article. In light of TFG's recent bribe solicitation to the petrochemical industry and all of the well documented toxicity that has come out of the industry over the decades, it's easy to see a convergence happening between real world environmental calamity and social contagion emanating from commercial mainstream media over the same timeframe. TFG has emerged as the perfect sensor of odoriferous presence and noxious verbal bile that is the world of teevee and hate radio in these days of collapsing militant extractive capitalism. The desperation fantasy flooding commercial news, infotainment, and the toxic radio jocks and podcasters product is more toxic effluvia. What's becoming evident is most people are sick of the bull sh*t. You are helping to stem the flow. Good Work!
Thanks for the post, Nina. As a (retired) climate scientist, I take the long view. What’s best for us and the planet 50-100 (or even 1000) years from now? Plastics are not high on my list. Seems like about 40% of Americans don’t really appreciate what a second Trump presidency would entail: Massive environmental destruction, rollback of all green-energy initiatives, and “deconstruction of the administrative state” (to quote Steve Bannon and others). Meaning, no regulation of polluters and petroleum producers and all their inherent environmental impacts. I can’t believe there’s a majority of Americans who think Trump would be “better for the economy” than Biden, but that’s what the polls say. Ride that train right off the cliff…
Thank you Nina!
This puts in perspective the promise by TFG to the millionaires to cut taxes and roll back regulations. Truth can be worse than (science) fiction!

Yep, good job. Systemic transnational corruption is causing convergence of real world and digital broadcast world environmental & social calamities.
