Thank you for the confirmation. We are screwed, and the country, as we’ve known it, is over. Imagine. Meek wackjob churchie, Mike Johnson, second from the presidency !!! You can’t get more theocratic than saying the Bible says to protect Israel, but says nothing of Ukraine. 🙄 You write, “One of Mindy’s Tweets today is about the death of Matthew Perry: ‘Matthew Perry is dead after first responders, called it in as cardiac arrest. He was 54. He was also fully vaccinated.’” What addled crap. That’s like saying, “John Brown robbed the First National Bank. He was adopted.” I do not feel I am being pessimistic, but, rather, realistic. Mine, I think, is the last generation (I am 83) to enjoy a functioning democracy. Hiccups and bumps aside, it was great while it lasted.
Yeah. Johnson is a very creepy type--very Himmler. Little bespectacled soft-spoken baby face--sounds totally rational as he engineers and implements a final solution.
We really are in an Isaac Asimov or Stephen King novel. I keep thinking if I wake up, the nightmare will have ended. Puleeze. What will ever wake the “followers” (Trumplethinskins, chaos agent, bible pushers)? Why do these people have so much power? It is a form of Big Brother constantly proselytizing. They don’t even care if it’s true. Margo Howard and others are correct: we are so screwed. Thank God I am “of a certain age!” Yet it IS my fight. I am not ready to be blamed for the world we are leaving our children and grandchildren.
The left/progressives/Dems/etc. simply don't have the apparatus, nor infrastructure to combat fully combat this. Fascists/Republicans have far more reach with Fox, Sinclair others, and dominate social media, and podcasts and other media, whereby the mainstream media (along with their own presence at social media) cowers into "both siderism" and ignores so much.
And then there's the seemingly endless supply of money from oligarchs and truly vile people, fueling still more vile people, like Moms for Liberty and other groups. Which make progressives constantly playing defense, on our heels, constanstly shocked and surprised by the horror and hurt of it all.
The only hope, I wonder is if chaos and damage just burns itself out eventually. And maybe there's hope in results of so many recent elections, especially with Gen Z, where so many are outright rejecting extremism. But that feels tentative (I don't live in Virginia or Ohio and both upcoming elections have me on edge) and I never underestimate the ability of progressives to get petulant and "take the ball and go home" if they don't get everything they want RIGHT NOW. Which is exactly what the GOP didn't do throughout their 30-year lurch to fascism (especially at the state level).
Great piece as it lays out the breadth of the all too real threat to our democracy, our entire way of life. I have hoped that our judicial system in toto would be able to severely blunt and isolate the principal criminals in the control room of the Insurrection, but hope is as they say not a strategy. Neither is relying on a potential overwhelming turnout for democracy.
Just as impending prison time has awakened the survival instincts of the 3 counterfeit lawyers in Georgia, the purloined big dark money behind this far right takeover attempt must be exposed. With names and business interests. It must be made clear to them that their business futures will not sail on to massive profits and lower taxes, but will face a concerted drive to deprive them of those comforts, using the same kind of information warfare that they now support.

Scary accurate snapshot of the evil among us.

Shorter story: we're doomed.

Excellent.
