Thanks, Nina. It was a dreadful night for democracy that did little other than paint a demented fascist with what will seem, to the uninformed and the equally insane, as a veneer of acceptability. I despair.

Yes, memories of RBG sprang to mind and my son joked macabrely, "best case scenario: they both die before the November election." If he is the candidate, I will vote for Joe. I take solace in the pundits reminding us Obama bombed his first incumbent debate, but wow, was that ever disappointing and frightening. Time is not on our side. Joe deserves a rest if that's what he needs. He's been a great public servant and Donald is not the answer. Never again. Maybe it's time to test Donald's presidential immunity theory - for the good of the free world?!? I think the Supreme Court still hasn't decided, right?

This was a cringeworthy debate and it was so painful to watch. I started to feel the anxiety that I used to feel during Trump’s presidency…..I never want to have that terror again.

My heart sank when Biden started talking and I thought, this is going to be a shitshow. It was!

Democracy is of course at stake and I will still choose Biden and hope for a miracle.

My dream scenario is the one where Gore won in 2000. I remember my then-2-year-old chanting along to the TV, "Gore in 4! Gore in 4!" Sigh.

Ugh. You're so right about all of this.

No -- this is not the Titanic. Did you see the NC rally this afternoon? We are moving forward after a bad "debate". I'm proud to continue working to re-elect Joe Biden, and more Dems should be, as well. I will be signing off from getting further emails from you in the future. Stay healthy and have a nice life.

Very true, and very frightening.

Biden is old enough & wise enough to know what stepping aside for the good of the country is about - but he is sitting on the top of the pile, in the most coveted job in the world, and appears like most humans in that situation to be letting his own pride get in the way of sound judgement. I am quite sure Jill is pushing him to stay where he is too - because as spouse she wants his success more than anything else in the world! So - while I think it would be a masterful step to decide to let somebody else take over immediately, fully admitting he is floundering a bit, I doubt he has the depth of human character to do that! Exactly the problem we saw with RBG !!! This is also exacerbated by the lack of any really strong obvious contender - altho I love Kamala Harris & there are several other highly promising Dems waiting in the wings. I'm 84 now, and I know I am also not so on top of things as I was 10 years ago !

It's too late.

It was too late when they nominated Hilly. Ever met her brothers back in the day? I did. I couldn't believe what the D's did when they all rallied around her and her banking buds.

My partner's fam is all in for DJT. They are kinda representative of the people in this country that the enlightened and entitled have left behind with all the tech, wall street, and infotainment of the first quarter of this century.

It's been Dem suicide through ignorant arrogance.

And so it goes again.

Democrats handed Trump the presidency when they circled their wagons around Hillary, despite her obvious flaws as a candidate. It looks like they've made this same mistake again. I truly thought the old-man memes about Biden were overblown. Now, I can't unsee how Biden dithered during one of the most consequential debates in my lifetime. If Dems were smart - which they are not - they'd put up Gavin Newsom or somebody else who can appeal to younger voters. Or move to Canada. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/06/29/obama-clinton-excuse-biden-trump-debate.html

Trump is the InfoIdiot Jones in politics. They’re both snake oil salesmen who completely change depending on who they’re with. It’s easy for them because they’re men of zero substance.

I'm afraid it is already too late.

Thank goodness there’s a strong third choice! I watched the debate on X with Kennedy. It was like a breath of fresh air having a well spoken, intelligent adult in the room. I’m definitely leaning RFK Jr now!
