Thank you for attending and reporting back, so I didn't have to.

I can practically walk there from a cabin I own in the area. This does not make for sound sleeping.

You scare me, Nina. Great reporting. Christians with guns. What else can they do to make a mockery of the faith?

This is very scary stuff. You were brave to go there and report.

These people are mentally ill. No other explanation except the few infiltrators looking for bizarre experiences. This gave me the creeps just reading even after I read “The Kingdom, the Power and the Glory” by Tim Alberta. This god and guns stuff is nonsense. A seige mentality with no siege.

Thank you for this amazing, chilling and beautifully written piece. I live in the liberal bubble, so I am rarely privy to this slice of American pie. It's creepy to know that just under the surface there are (well armed) groups of cult members willing to do whatever is necessary to attain and keep power. We must all do what we can to counter this movement, starting with voting and getting out the vote! Thanks again for your fine work.

You went full gonzo with this one, ... don't know what you were on but as the ghouls crept out of their inside skins I melted in a scream of laughter.

Frightening, I know the area, have family living there, former coal miners, waiting for the mines to reopen while living on gov't assistance. I visited the area trying to find the dirt road, now paved, named after the family. It was depressing so on Sunday we decided to pay a visit to Brownsville, once a thriving town on the river. Only things open were the bars, churches and one restaurant under the bridge where we ate lunch. The waitress noticed my wife's accent and asked her where ya'all from, when she replied Israel. a middle-aged man at the end of the counter shouted, hey I'm Jewish. He was a bit, not the normal man from the hollar, admitting that he was mentally ill, and had a few hrs off from the nearby mental hospital. There once was a large Jewish community in town, he now was the only Jew left there in Brownsville which should be renamed 'Rustville' it was grim. My kin, obviously right-wing and I started exchanging e-mails but once they realized I was anti-Trump, they ghosted me. No big loss...

I had come to believe that the Moonie movement was dead long ago Nina! I’m not surprised that you entered the lions den to report on their history and insanity! Every time I’ve ever driven through rural Pennsylvania I see poverty and porn stores are the only businesses with the lights still on. I bow low for your amazing courage in finding yourself surrounded in the miasma of MAGA miscreants and gun crazed fanatical lunacy!

Thanks again for all you do!!

Obama wasn't referring to that specific group. He was managing to alienate anyone in Pennsylvania where the first day of deer season is a school holiday. It called into question his chops as a pol. Failed to read the room.

There is no place w/o GPS coverage according to noaa. Certainly not in NW PA which seriously is not particularly remote.
