I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s death. May she travel with ease to the welcome that awaits her and may all who love her be comforted. It’s a seismic loss.
So much pain in the world. So much grief. Thank you for bearing witness.
"The presidents were woefully unprepared and fell into the trap." Ah, but two of the three were prepared <I believe the presidents of Penn and Harvard> coached by Wilmer-Hale ... and what in hell is wrong with THEM? Why would college presidents, no less, need coaching on what to say about slaughter?
As for Stefanik carrying water for the Jews, that's a laugh, since it's calculated to own the Libs, to use that wretched phrase. It was her leader, Trump, who brought anti-Semitism to the forefront most recently.
One of the problems with many thousands of deaths can be summed up by Stalin, no less!
"A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic." It is a moral Mobius strip, moreover, to consider the unthinkable atrocities, some joyously committed, along with disproportionate responses, and Israel rejecting intel because it came from WOMEN. Add to this the fact that some feel required to issue nuanced statements, rather than the truth. (But ever was it thus.)
I am sorry for your personal loss, which motivated this column.
An addition to my comment, from Slate: "A MAGA leader and Trump supporter in the House comes out against antisemitism … on the left." Ms. Stefanick is still a bad actor.
So sorry for your loss- losing a parent is tough. I remember how hard it was for my sons when my husband/their father died. The news these days is so terrible - both in terms of violence/war/death and political news from the right wing that it makes me. physically ill. And then there are those who want to hate/dismiss/ pick apart every word said about everything. It must be mind blowing to know so much better than anyone else.
Yes I spent many years in the Middle East and two years in and out of Israel crossing between east and west working on a book about archaeological forgery and the conflicts between secular Israeli scientists and religious nationalism.. I have a lot of sympathy for Israelis and like the country very much. It's a complicated situation..
I’m sorry...but Norman Finkelstein? Read Universal Declaration of Human Rights, read the laws of war, read humanitarian law. Why go to Norman Finkelstein first off? Is there really any need to go to some specialized view about the Middle East? No, there is not. Listen to the UN, read just war theory. Our whole architecture of human rights which supposedly guides liberal democracies like the United States is being shredded and destroyed.

So much loss, so much grief, so heartfully expressed.
I’m very sorry about your Mom, Nina. Thank you for your writing, as always.

Do you? How much history would you require one to know before they can comment on the massacre of civilians just trying to live their lives?
I trust that in your extensive study of the history that you are well acquainted with the writings of Norman Finkelstein.

Yes. I’ve read several books by him. Next. Instead of attempting to gotcha me or Nina why don’t you try to have a conversation?
No I am not Nina but I’m certain that she knows as much of the history as you do.
